Ceremonies
No Frills 2015 will be kicked-off with Opening Ceremonies on Friday night, with our very own Director of Performing Arts, David R. Humphrey. Saturday evening following the banquet, we will host the Awards Ceremony to highlight all of the bid and spirit winners. Sunday, after a weekend of boardroom, we will be hosting the Closing Ceremonies, with closing speaker Allyson Beck, highlighting how we have been stepping into the spotlight throughout the weekend.
Keynote Speaker:
David R. Humphrey, Ph.D
Director, Department of Performing Arts
Earning his bachelor of music education and certificate in flute at Florida State University, Humphrey then completed a master of music education and educational administration the next year, swiftly followed by a PhD in opera production/music education.
Humphrey founded and ran the music department at the University of Houston at Victoria and launched a community education program there, as well as starting the community’s first orchestra. He was the founding dean at the Florida School of the Arts at St. John’s River Community College, Florida’s first state-supported professional arts school for high school and college students.
In succeeding years, he served in leadership and consulting roles at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, New York City Opera, Corcoran Museum of Art, Museum of Performance & Design, California Center for the Arts in Escondido, and Washington Bach Consort. As the founder and director of the AlphaCentauri Production Group, he was commissioned by the White House and National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts to direct and produce the annual Salute to the Presidential Scholars Show for 25 years in a row.
Closing Speaker:
Allyson Beck
Area Coordinator, Student Apartments & Family Housing
RHA & NRHH Advisor, No-Frills 2015 Conference Advisor
Attending her first conference in 2004 at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, Allyson instantly lost her voice and fell in love with the world of conferencing and student affairs. In 2005 she was part of the team that bid to host NACURH 2006, unfortunately they did not receive the ability to host at that time. Upon returning to her university, she and a number of student leaders continued the path that was set before them, won & hosted NACURH 2007: One Small Step at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. If you ask Allyson, this is one of her happiest moments.
After undergrad and graduate school, Allyson became an Area Coordinator at Southern Oregon University. After only a month of being an Area Coordinator, Allyson was brought in to help advise PACURH 2010: A Friend Request to Leadership, here at Southern Oregon University.
This No Frills conference will mark Allyson’s 25th conference that she will be attending! She has a passion in helping her students learn about the amazing resources that are offered to them through NACURH, while also teaching them the beauty of “Riding the Pony”, cheering and creating new and lasting relationships.

Philanthropy
Southern Oregon University wanted to find a charity that did a lot for the greater Ashland our community but also fit the mission statement of our county; “Jackson County’s mission is to provide public services that protect and enhance the quality of life in the County, as determined by the people, laws, and available resources.” We decided to choose the Family Nurturing Center as our philanthropy project because it is a charity in Jackson County that exists to support and educate families. This philanthropy project coincides with the Southern Oregon University Mission Statement: “Southern Oregon University is an inclusive campus community dedicated to student success, intellectual growth, and responsible global citizenship.”
By working with the Family Nurturing Center we will be aiding in the assurance of future student success and intellectual growth. As responsible global citizens it is our responsibility to help young children toward a successful future.
The Family Nurturing Center in Medford, Oregon, is focused on child abuse and neglect prevention and intervention. This Children’s Relief Nursery was created in May 2006 with the idea to serve high-risk families with children from six weeks to five years old. This idea started with just two families and since then it has helped over 400 children.
Delegates attending will be encouraged to bring bedtime items to be donated to the Family Nurturing Center. Items the Family Nurturing Center needs are diapers, toothpaste and toothbrushes, pajamas, books and night-lights. During the No-Frills conference delegates will have an opportunity to use their creative skills to make tie-blankets for the children to send with the items.
Below you will find the different Acts that we have separated you all into for the items to purchase for the Family Nurturing Center.

Spirit
While No Frills is an all business conference, Southern Oregon University would like to include some PACURH spirit in the conference by doing a few things. Spirit points will be offered prior and during the conference and will be kept managed by staff members. Spirit points can be earned by attending schools following our Twitter account and liking our Facebook page. The No-Frills 2015 conference staff will be hosting a spirit challenge leading up to the No-Frills conference.
During the actual conference we will be hosting the first “PACURH Spirit Exchange." Delegates will bring swag from their school and will receive one raffle ticket for each piece that they bring. The Delegates will be able to choose a piece of swag when their ticket is drawn. As this would take place during lunch it will provide schools with a chance to interact and show more spirit during the conference.
While No-Frills is a business conference, that doesn’t mean it can’t have the same fun atmosphere like at PACURH and NACURH. We really want to show our PACURH spirit!
Spirit Points

Passive Programming
Because this is a “No-Frills” Conference, we will not be offering programming sessions for delegates. However, we would like to introduce a new tradition of Passive Programming during the No-Frills conference. Delegates will be asked to bring one poster per school to showcase a successful program that their school has hosted. These posters, not to exceed 2’ by 3’ and any materials that the delegates wish to bring will be hung in the Stevenson Union for delegates to review during breaks and meal times. We will also be working to post all supplemental materials on our website for delegates to reference after the conference, to help keep this sustainable. Any school that participates will be given 20 Spirit Points for participating.
